Hello, welcome to my e-Portfolio...
My name is Kathleen Garcia and I am an 8th grade mathematics teacher. I started my career in education just 3 years ago and I would not want to be doing anything else. I currently work at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in San Bernardino City Unified School District. I have a strong passion to work with the youth and in the same community where I grew up. My goal is to educate, inspire, support, and motivate my students to be successful. I am currently enrolled in the Instructional Design and Technology Masters Program at California State University, San Bernardino. I strive to continuously educate myself to grow in my profession so that I can better serve my students.
Professional Goals
Being an educator at the secondary level for mathematics, I truly enjoying being in the classroom. My career goals are to continue to teach at the secondary level and venture into becoming a site technology coach for my school site. This way I am able to help my colleagues implement technology in their classrooms as a tool to assist students in learning. As for long term my goal, I want to be able to use my M.A. in IDT to work at the district level. Working at the district level I will be able to use and share my knowledge of designing effective programs with the incorporation of technology to help teachers across the district continue to learn and grow for the better of our students and community.
Reflection
Thus far into the IDT program I have learned how to be more strategic and targeted when creating my lessons for my classes. Learning more about IDT I am able to directly apply it to my practice in the classroom and also to continue to reflect and grow as a professional. I have learned about the different learning theories and can apply it to the design of my lessons to better assists my students in learning. I have also learned technology skills such as creating a website and practicing HTML coding. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow as an Instructional designer.
